Sparkes Memorial Invitation Trophy

Hackney Under 11’s 4, Orpington Under 11;’s 2

Sparkes troph winners 2008

Hackney maintained their recent good form by retaining the Sparkes Memorial Trophy in a highly entertaining game on Saturday.

Orpington took advantage of a brisk wind to go ahead after just two minutes and continued to pin Hackney back in their own half during the early exchanges.

It took leading scorer Mohammadu Faal  to restore parity and then give Hackney the lead, twice rounding off excellent mid-field play by Aron Gordon, Montel  Shalders-Gayle and Danio Brown. Faal just failed to complete a first-half hat-trick with an angled drive but Hackney soon went 4-1 ahead with well crafted goals from substitutes Anselmo Gomes Co and Connor Alloway.

A late penalty for Orpington was just reward for the visitors’ efforts which had contributed hugely to the entertainment.
