SCHOOLS’ FOOTBALL

Major silverware has eluded Hackney Under 11’s this year but the cabinet will not be empty at the end of the season. Playing their best football of the season, the team scooped two invitation trophies in a week with victories against Gravesham & District in the Billings Memorial Cup (6-0) and then retained the McKee Trophy against neighbours Islington (2-0)

The match against Gravesham & District was played under floodlights at the Corinthian FC Ground at Longfield, Kent and the perfect surface helped Hackney’s passing game from the start. Montel Shalders-Gayle was first on the mark for the visitors, his twenty-yard drive giving the home goalkeeper no chance. The second goal from Aron Gordon was just as impressive and second half strikes from Mohammadu Faal (2), Connor Alloway and Luke Primmet completed Hackney’s biggest win of the season.

Next opponents Islington provided stiff opposition from the start of the McKee trophy match, twice missing opportunities to open the scoring. But it was Mohhamadu Faal who put Hackney ahead with an overhead kick as Islington struggled to clear a corner. The visitors continued to press but missed their best chance to level when Hackney ‘keeper Stas Butler saved a penalty on the stroke of half-time.

Hackney’s response was to dominate much of the game from then on, the decisive second goal coming  mid-way through the half from Luke Primmet who provided a measured finish to a sliced clearance from the Islington goalkeeper.
