Bexley Under 11’s 2, Hackney Under 11’s 3

Hackney’s youngsters took their early season unbeaten run to four matches with this narrow but deserved win over a powerful Bexley side.

The home team took the early initiative, dominating in mid-field but not causing too many problems for the Hackney goalkeeper, Ed  Shepherd. Hackney began to demonstrate their attacking skills, left midfielder Anselmo Gomes delighting spectators with his superb touch and passing skills on the left, while on the opposite flank, Chiyanie Fage-Burgin moved forward from his defensive position to provide some defence splitting passes.

From one of these, Muhammadu  Faal broke free to put Hackney ahead with a low drive and, after Bexley had equalised when Hackney failed to clear a corner, Faal        was again on hand to slot home his team’s second before the interval.

The visitors came under more pressure in the second period as Bexley again took control in mid-field, but Hackney went 3-1 up when skipper Sean Clare stepped forward to drive a twenty-yard free-kick into the Kent side’s net.

Bexley eventually broke through to add a second when Hackney failed to close down a short corner but the visitors were able to see out the final few minutes without further alarms.
