Inter-District Match

Hackney Under 11’s 2, Thurrock Under 11’s 1

Hackney’ s promising start to the season continued at Douglas Eyre on Saturday when they overcame a powerful Thurrock side  with a fine team performance.

The visitors looked the stronger outfit in the early stages without really threatening the home goal, but it was Hackney who took the lead when Charlie Waite soon broke through on the left and hit a rasping low drive into the net.

Thurrock levelled just before half-time but as both sides made changes, play began to switch from end to end  to produce a thrill-a-minute session. Waite and Martin Reilly continued to test their opponents’ strength at the back, but it was mid-fielder Ellvis Kisikidi who settled the issue with a 20 yard volley which the goalkeeper could only help into the net.

Even then, Thurrock twice came close to a second equaliser, but Hackney goalkeeper Donnie Banks made brave interceptions to keep his team in front.

Hackney Under 11’s: from:  Banks, Croxford, Capt., Harrison, Kisikidi (Gayhurst), Dwomoh, Egwuekwe, Awotwi (Brook Community), Samuel-Welch (Queensbridge), McKenzie-Jacobs, Long (Sir Thomas Abney), Mugabo (Gainsborough), Taylor-Dye (Grazebrook), Hinds (Benthal), Reilly (Nightingale), Jospeh (Simon Marks) Waite (Baden Powell).
