Hackney’ s promising start to the season continued at Douglas
Eyre on Saturday when they overcame a powerful
The visitors looked the
stronger outfit in the early stages without really threatening the home goal,
but it was Hackney who took the lead when Charlie Waite soon broke through on
the left and hit a rasping low drive into the net.
Thurrock levelled just
before half-time but as both sides made changes, play began to switch from end
to end to produce a thrill-a-minute
session. Waite and Martin Reilly continued to test their opponents’ strength at
the back, but it was mid-fielder Ellvis Kisikidi who settled the issue with a 20 yard volley which
the goalkeeper could only help into the net.
