Crisp Shield – Quarter Final

Hackney Under 11’s 3, Newham Under 11’s 2

Hackney hit two late goals to clinch a Crisp Shield semi-final spot after a resolute Newham side had overturned the home team’s slender 1-0 half-time advantage to lead 2-1 with just ten minutes to play.

Abdu Mugabo had given Hackney the lead finishing a surging run from the back with a twenty yard drive. This was just reward for his side’s dominance in a first half in which they had forced eight corners but had failed to make the breakthrough.

Newham showed more attacking flair after the interval and went ahead with two well-

taken goals. It looked gloomy for Hackney as Newham then hit a post with a low drive but when a Charlie Waite free-kick was turned into his own net by a Newham defender the home side regained the ascendancy and it was Waite himself who drove home the winner minutes from time following good work by Joshua Jospeh and Elvis Kisikidi.

Hackney will now be away to Croydon or Islington in the semi-final.

Hackney Under 11’s: Banks, Croxford (Capt.), Kisikidi (Gayhurst), Taylor-Dye (Grazebrook), Hinds (Benthal), Mugabo (Gainsborough), Joseph (Simon Marks),

  • Hackney Under 11’s have unfinished business on Saturday when they travel to Hemel Hempstead for a Southern Counties Cup tie against Dacorum. The original game in December was abandoned after half-time owing to a waterlogged pitch when Hackney were leading 2-1.
